I am a big fan of data layers as they provide they provide a richness to your data and valuable business insights that you would not get normally from a standard implementation. Working on a client project while brainstorming worked out I had to show the financial value of getting a data layer deployed. It worked a treat and a few drafts later this is the data layer financial costings framework. The caveat is you need to get an understanding of resources and costs before working on this.
